Connecting Trello to Skopx adds AI-powered board analytics, natural language card search, and automated project tracking to your workflow. Ask questions about your Trello boards in plain English and receive instant, data-driven answers.

Prerequisites

Before connecting Trello:

  • A Skopx account (free tier or above)
  • A Trello account with access to the boards you want to analyze
  • Your AI API key configured in Skopx settings

Trello's integration model is straightforward and does not typically require admin approval for individual board connections.

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Open Integrations

Log in to Skopx and navigate to the Integrations tab.

Step 2: Find Trello

Search for "Trello" in the integrations catalog or browse the Project Management category. Click the Trello card.

Step 3: Authorize the Connection

Click "Connect Trello." This redirects you to Trello's authorization page where you grant Skopx read access to your account. The permissions include:

  • Read access to boards, lists, and cards. This enables Skopx to query your Trello data.
  • Read access to team and member information. This allows resolution of assignees and collaborators.

Click "Allow" to complete the authorization.

Step 4: Select Boards

After authorization, Skopx displays your Trello boards. Select the boards you want to include in analytics. You can choose all boards or specific ones.

Step 5: Verify

Test the connection by asking "How many cards are on the [board name] board?" in the Skopx chat.

Practical Use Cases

Project Status Overview

Get an instant picture of project health across your Trello boards.

Example queries:

  • "How many cards are in each list on the Marketing board?"
  • "Show me all overdue cards across all boards"
  • "What percentage of cards on the Product board have been completed?"
  • "List cards that were moved to Done this week"

Workload Management

Understand how work is distributed across team members.

Example queries:

  • "Show me card assignments by team member on the Engineering board"
  • "Who has the most cards assigned to them right now?"
  • "Are there any cards with no assigned members?"
  • "What is the average number of cards per person on the Sprint board?"

Bottleneck Identification

Find where work gets stuck in your workflow.

Example queries:

  • "Which list has the most cards on the Development board?"
  • "Show me cards that have been in the 'In Review' list for more than 5 days"
  • "What is the average time a card spends in each list?"
  • "Are there any lists with more than 20 cards?"

Progress Tracking

Monitor checklist completion and card movement over time.

Example queries:

  • "What is the overall checklist completion percentage for the Q3 roadmap board?"
  • "Show me cards with incomplete checklists that are due this week"
  • "How many cards were moved to Done this month compared to last month?"

Label and Category Analytics

Analyze work by category using Trello's label system.

Example queries:

  • "Show me the distribution of cards by label on the Product board"
  • "How many 'Bug' labeled cards are open?"
  • "Which label has the most overdue cards?"

Security and Privacy

Read-Only Access

The Trello integration operates in read-only mode. Skopx cannot create, modify, or delete cards, lists, or boards.

API-Based Queries

All data is fetched through Trello's REST API on demand. Skopx does not maintain a persistent copy of your board data.

BYOK Protection

AI processing of your Trello data uses your own API key. No query content is retained by Skopx.

Revoking Access

Disconnect from the Skopx integrations page. Additionally, revoke the Trello Power-Up in your Trello account settings under Connected Apps.

Troubleshooting

Boards not appearing

Ensure you are a member of the boards you want to connect. Trello boards that you have not joined will not appear in the selection list.

Missing card data

Cards on archived lists or archived cards themselves may not appear in standard queries. Specify that you want to include archived content if needed.

Slow responses

Boards with thousands of cards may take longer to query. Narrow your questions with date ranges, specific lists, or member filters.

Advanced Configuration

Cross-Platform Project Tracking

Trello works best in Skopx when combined with other tools:

  • Trello plus Slack: "What Trello cards were discussed in Slack today?"
  • Trello plus Google Calendar: "Show me Trello deadlines that conflict with my meetings this week"
  • Trello plus Gmail: "Find emails related to cards on the Client Projects board"

Connecting Trello alongside your communication and scheduling tools creates a unified view of project work that spans planning, execution, and collaboration.

Next Steps

With Trello connected, your team can get instant answers about project status and workload distribution. Consider connecting your communication tools (Slack, Gmail) next to add collaboration context to your project analytics.
